The Black Chested Buzzard Eagle is
the only member of the genus
Geranoaetus and is allied to the Buteo
hawks. It is also known as the
Black Buzzard-Eagle, Grey Buzzard-Eagle
and the Chilean Blue Eagle. The adult
has a white underside, sometimes with
fine blackish stripes. It's upperparts
are dark grey with a blackish, brownish
or bluish hue. With long broad wings it
spends a lot of time soaring high on
thermals looking for prey. It requires a
large territory and is most common
between 1,500m and 4,600m above
sea-level. It nests in high trees or on
rocky cliffs with a clutch of 1 -3 eggs
that are incubated for about a month.
