The Brahminy Kite is a medium sized
bird of prey found across South Asia
and coastal regions of northern and
eastern Australia. It has a contrasting
plumage similar to typical fish eagles,
mainly chestnut with a white head and
breast and black wing tips.
The Brahminy Kite is close in size and
flying style to the Black Kite. It has a
rounded tail, unlike the classic forked
tails of Red and Black Kites, but they
are closely related.
They roost in large numbers & hundreds
are sometimes seen in one location.
The breeding season is from December
to April, nesting in trees often close to
water. A clutch of between 1 - 4 eggs
are laid and incubated for upto 27 days.
