BARN OWL.
Family : Barn Owls are classed in a separate family from other owls (Strigidae) known as Tytonidae.
Scientific Name : Tyto Alba.
Distribution : Worldwide
Habitat : Open lowland, farmland, semi-arid shrubland, marshes.
Food : Small mammals.
Wingspan : 85 - 95cm.


Barn Owl
TAWNY OWL.
Scientific Name : Strix Aluco.
Distribution : Europe, parts of Asia and North Africa.
Habitat : Mainly woodland.
Food : Varied. Small mammals, young nest bound birds, invertebrates.
Wingspan : 95 - 105cm.

LITTLE OWL.
Scientific Name : Athene Noctua.
Distribution : Europe.
Habitat : Open country. Tend to avoid dense woodland and forest.
Food : Mainly insects.
Wingspan : 54 - 58cm.

EUROPEAN EAGLE OWL.
Scientific Name : Bubo Bubo.
Distribution : Europe, Western Russia.
Habitat : Open woodland, uplands upto 4500m.
Food : Mammals. Typically rabbits, hare. Has been known to take foxes and roe deer.
Wingspan : 160 - 190cm.

Scientific Name : Strix Nebulosa.
Distribution : North America, Northern Asia, parts of Scandinavia.
Habitat : Mix of dense forest and open areas.
Food : Mainly small mammals including voles, gophers, mice.
Wingspan : 140 - 150cm.

Scientific Name : Nyctea scandiaca.
Distribution : Arctic tundra of North America, Europe and Asia.
Habitat : Arctic tundra, open grassland and prairie, coast.
Food : Mammals and birds including lemmings, rabbits, voles, ptarmigan, sea birds and geese
Wingspan : 140 - 165cm.

Scientific Name : Bubo Virginianus.
Distribution : North and South America.
Habitat : Varied
Food : Small to medium sized mammals, some birds.
Wingspan : 100 -150cm.

Distribution : Indian Sub-Continent.
Habitat : Wooded country, semi-desert areas.
Food : Rodents, medium sized birds, reptiles.
Wingspan : 120 -150cm.

Distribution : Sub-Saharan Africa.
Habitat : Lightly wooded country.
Food : Medium sized mammals to size of hare. Also some birds.

Distribution : Western North America, South America.
Habitat : Open country such as dry grasslands.
Food : Insects and small rodents. Occasionally smalls birds, frogs.

Scientific Name : Otus Scops.
Distribution : Southern Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor East to Central Asia.
Habitat : Open or semi-open woodland.
Food : Mainly insects, also small lizards, frogs, small mammals.
Wingspan : 47 - 54cm.
