Healthcheck training

Over the spring months some of our larger birds, including the Marabou Storks, Secretary Birds and Pelicans have started to be trained to stand on a set of scales to have their weight taken.

Taking and recording the birds weight is important not just from a flying perspective, but also so we can continue to provide high levels of health and welfare. The birds are encouraged onto the scales and rewarded with food when they step on and stand still long enough for the weight to be read.
