Snow days.....

As the beast from the East hit the UK this week, here at Gauntlet we awaited the dropping temperatures by ensuring that all our residents were comfortable and protected from the elements. Some of our older birds came indoors to shelter, extra heat lamps and heaters were placed with certain birds, but some thoroughly enjoyed this cold snap!...

Holly our Bald Eagle (pictured above) took the snow in her stride. Bald Eagles can be found in many cold parts of American including Alaska, so storm Emma meant Holly didn't batter an eyelid!

The obvious birds who really enjoyed this weather is our Snowy Owls Blizzard (pictured left) and Frosty (pictured below). Both these birds are perfectly adapted for such cold conditions with thick feathering and warm feathery feet!

Robert and Rebecca our Marabou storks took refuge in their heated 'bedroom' areas, Yoda our Little Owl was tucked in tightly in his indoor aviary, and the ferrets snuggled together in a bed of straw to keep nice and cosy.

Staff just about coped with cold fingers and toes!

We hope everyone else managed to keep nice and warm. It looks to be passing now so join us soon with hopefully a little sunshine!

In the's our rather picturesque flying arena.......
