It may be winter outside, but here at Gauntlet we never set down for a rest!
The winter months at Gauntlet are typically a season for rest (the birds, not us!) and renovation and this year we have something exciting in the pipeline! Recent visitors to Gauntlet may have noticed that we have been making some pretty big changes around our Kite team aviary.
Our amazing 16 strong Kite team have worked tirelessly over the summer months providing the jaw dropping spectacular ending to our 3pm shows. As a member of BIAZA we uphold the highest standards of welfare for our birds and decided that the Kites deserved a well earned break. They have moved aviaries, they have new neighbours to look at, and are enjoying a couple of weeks off work (it’s alright for some ey!).
In the meantime we are building them a brand new aviary. This aviary will form part of a section including a new area for our Pygmy Goat Marcus, and a brand new aviary for our Secretary birds. This is a major piece of building work which has been months in the planning, and we are aiming for it to be fully completed in time for our spring summer season. But don’t worry! The Kites will be back showing off their aerial acrobatics shortly!
Whilst the Kites are off we will introduce you to our Winter team of birds in our 12:30 and 3pm displays. Some of your regular favourites still make an appearance and some will be taking time off, but please be assured that if you visit over the winter months you are sure to see flying displays like no other.
We’ve told the Kites the holiday is over at Christmas! So fingers crossed their new home is ready for then!
